About Bloom Boom
This quilt uses one block to create a bold and eye-catching design. Watch as big blooms and shining stars emerge as you assemble this quilt.
Bloom Boom comes in 3 sizes: Baby, Throw, and Bed. The baby size is a quick and fun project that works great as a newborn gift or wall hanging. This design uses 5 fabrics so there is lots of opportunity for colour and print combinations.
Bloom Boom looks great with a light or a dark background and in prints or solids. Directional prints are not recommended. Bloom Boom is suitable for advanced beginner quilters. It is a great skill builder for a newbie or a fun and fast project for a more experienced quilter.
Fabric Requirements
Bloom Boom uses yardage and looks great in many different colour combinations.
If you like our Bloom Boom cover quilt, you can use those same colours for your quilt, too!
Please note that we do not recommend directional prints for this design. They will not be able to all be aligned in the same direction when sewn into the quilt.
Construction
This pattern has a nice variety in the piecing including half square triangles, flying geese, and snowball corners. Once all the elements are ready, Bloom Boom only uses one block to create all the stars and flowers you see in the design. It is easy to assemble once you have the blocks made because there are no sashing or borders required.
I think Bloom Boom is a really fun quilt to sew because:
- There is a nice variety of elements to piece.
- The individual blocks don’t look like much, but when you assemble the quilt, the pattern emerges and it is very exciting.
- The blocks are large so this is a pretty quick sew.
The Quilting
Thanks to Shelly over at Ma Tante quilting for longarming the cover quilt. I chose “Hot Cross Buns” for the pantograph and I’m thrilled with how it looks. The angled lines perfectly compliment the piecing.
For the baby sample, I quilted the diagonal crosshatch myself and chose a Suzy Quilts fabric from her Duval collection for the backing. I also used her binding fabric for the first time and it was so much fun! I love how well it matches the colours in the quilt.
Bloom Boom is on sale this week for 20% off along with all our other patterns!
I hope you enjoy this new quilt pattern!
