One of the best things about being a quilter is making meaningful gifts for friends and family. Quilts mark special occasions and can become treasured possessions or family heirlooms. This new Protostar Quilt is a gift for a new baby in my life, my goddaughter, Ellie. Protostar was designed to be the ultimate baby quilt and I’m thrilled to have a new little one to make one for. I loved choosing the fabrics and putting together this fun and cheerful baby quilt for her!

I started with the Ruby Star juice box print for this quilt. I am obsessed with this print! It worked really well in the border for Protostar because it can be fussy cut to highlight the individual juice boxes. From there, I chose bright and cheerful colours in a blue/yellow/pink palette. I also included a Christmas stocking print because Ellie’s parents love Christmas, as I’m sure she will too! There is a carousel print, a boba print, and cute circus pony and elephant prints, too.

For the back of this quilt I chose - you guessed it - juice boxes! I went with the pink colourway for the backing and It is so cute. I also included a custom embroidered patch with my name and date. I love doing this for gift quilts but I should be making a habit of always doing it on all of my quilts!
Note: Images were taken of the quilt before the patch was added to the lower right corner.

Protostar can be made multicoloured like this one or it can be made as a three-colour or two-colour quilt. I love this versatility because no matter what fabrics you are working with you can make Protostar shine!

I know this won’t be my last Protostar. It’s so quick to sew up and it has a great visual impact. It makes a great gift for kids, pets, or even as a wall hanging! I hope you give it a try!
